Alone in a group

We have a small internet cafe here at the lakeside. Ever spend any time in an internet cafe? This room holds 9 terminals, about 3 feet apart from the next. People just sit here and stare at the screen. Nobody talks. Occasionally someone will laugh, or sigh. The only sound is keys being clacked furiously. No hunt and peck typers in this group.

I think you spurred my creative imagination. I've never been to an internet cafe, but now I can imagine it. I can just see this 'new Norman Rockwell' painting in my mind - 9 people all sitting at close tables in a cafe (with a computer each of course) and each person's small area around them in the cafe is in a different part of the world - bistro, starbucks in NY, whatever - with a person across the table from them transparent. And in each person's private cafe they are alone with the friend they are talking to. Husband and wife 'dressed' for a romantic quiet dinner, 2 buddies relaxed talking sports at the bar...ect. Each of the 9 just arms length from a real person next to them, each of them 1000's of miles away from eachother in cyberspace.

Ah well, sorry for the long comment :)
